How to Import an ESX Roof Report into Xactimate

To import an ESX roof report into Xactimate, upload the ESX file to Xactimate Online, open it, and go to the Sketch to view the roof diagram and measurements. The report opens as a claim with the roof sketch already built, so every facet, pitch, and edge length is there with no manual measuring.

Before you start

  • Download the ESX file from your RoofAngle account and save it where you can find it.
  • Have your Xactimate Online (X1) login ready.
  • Confirm the address on the report matches the loss location.

Step-by-step

  1. Download the ESX file from your RoofAngle account to your computer.
  2. Log in to Xactimate (Xactimate Online / X1).
  3. Drag and drop the ESX file into Xactimate to upload it.
  4. Find the file by name in your list and double-click to open it. It may take a few seconds to load.
  5. Xactimate opens to the Claim Information tab for the claim created from your report.
  6. Open the Estimate tab (below Claim Info), then select Sketch to view the roof diagram.
  7. View the measurements: press Shift + M, or open the View menu and choose Measurements.
  8. Turn on Roof annotations from the same View menu to see the sketch labels alongside the measurements.

Common questions

Are the measurements already in the sketch?

Yes. Areas, pitch, and edge lengths (ridge, hip, valley, rake, eave) come in with the sketch, so you are not re-typing numbers. You build your line items from measurements that are already there.

The sketch looks off, what now?

First confirm you opened the correct file for the correct address. If a facet or pitch looks wrong, RoofAngle reports are human-reviewed and include free revisions, so request a correction rather than editing around it.

What if I use Symbility instead of Xactimate?

Order the XML version instead of ESX for Symbility. See ESX vs XML roof reports for which to choose.
